Product Overview
Of all the agents to promote healthy cholesterol, niacin has the longest clinically documented record of safety and efficacy, beginning in 1955 and continuing today. It is recommended by the National Cholesterol Education Program and the American Heart Association when diet alone is insufficient to maintain cholesterol within normal limits.
The vitamin Niacin has an impressive track record of positive effects upon cholesterol levels that are documented in numerous clinical trials.
Very few niacin products have been subjected to clinical study. Well controlled clinical trials conducted at the University of Minnesota, Harvard University and the Russian Research Center for Preventive Medicine have demonstrated excellent bioavailability and patient tolerance of ENDUR-ACIN® with less than 4% of patients discontinuing therapy due to side effects. Average daily dosages of 1500 mg of ENDUR-ACIN® produced favorable effects on all lipid components, indicating positive effects in promoting healthy cholesterol.*
Traditional, or common niacin usage has been limited particularly by so-called "nuisance" side effects including skin flushing associated with tingling and warmth. ENDUR-ACIN®, owing to its unique extended release formulation, eliminates for most individuals the unpleasant skin flushing effect that occurs when taking niacin. ENDUR-ACIN® utilizes a unique wax-matrix process that ensures uniform, continuous release of niacin from the tablet during its 6 - 8 hour transit time through the digestive system. This greatly reduces gastrointestinal upset and gut irritation associated with the buildup of localized concentrations of niacin and skin irritations associated with a rapid rise in blood levels.
ENDUR-ACIN® is usually well tolerated in single doses of 500 - 750 mg. Higher single doses can increase the likelihood of flushing, and can therefore be divided into a twice daily regimen to minimize the chance of side effects. Do not use ENDUR-ACIN® if you have a know hypersensitivity to niacin, or active liver disease. Use of any niacin for cholesterol levels should always be physician supervised.
