Endur-thine™ is a dietary supplement containing a unique combination of 500 mg sustained release niacin (Endur-acin®) and 200 mg sustained release pantethine per tablet. Both Endur-acin® and pantethine have been clinically proven to help improve the complete cholesterol profile. The “sustained release” feature of each tablet means slow, steady absorption of both ingredients over time, helping to prevent the commonly experienced “niacin-flush” that can occur with high doses of niacin.
The beneficial effects of niacin have been documented since the discovery in 1955 that the vitamin (B3) in therapeutic dosages lowered cholesterol levels in the blood. The mechanism by which niacin works is not completely known, but it is thought that niacin works by inhibiting the production of cholesterol in the liver. Pantethine is the metabolite of the vitamin pantothenic acid and has been shown in studies on both diabetic and non-diabetic populations to help promote healthy cholesterol within normal limits (less than 200 mg/dL). Pantethine, not pantothenic acid, has been shown to affect cholesterol.
Both Endur-acin® and pantethine have been clinically tested at the University of Minnesota. In a study including 201 male and female subjects taking 1500 mg Endur-acin® daily (one 500 mg tablet taken three times a day), statistically significant reductions were observed in three different measurements of cholesterol (complete study results available at www.enduranceresearch.com. Nuisance side effects of immediate-release niacin, especially flushing of the skin, were notably reduced or eliminated by the sustained release formulation of Endur-acin®. In another study at the University of Minnesota using pantethine, men and women subjects showed significant favorable effects on different measurements of cholesterol after administration of 600 mg daily.
