Don’t know what to get Mom (or sister who’s a mom or daughter who’s a mom) for Mother’s Day yet? While a dozen roses are lovely, why not use this holiday to get your mother a gift that will help her health. You want her around for a long, long time. So get her something that will help you all reach that goal.
Here’s a list of some healthy ideas.
Dark chocolate. Who says decadent can’t be healthy? Dark chocolate is a source of naturally occurring polyphenols that have potent antioxidant activity. Every day, your body produces molecules called free radicals. These are a byproduct of normal metabolism, but in but when they’re produced in excess, your body doesn’t have enough antioxidant power to neutralize them, and they can hurt healthy cells. Dark chocolate, which is especially rich in protective polyphenols, helps stop the formation of free radicals or neutralizes them before they do damage. Make sure it’s dark chocolate—neither milk nor white chocolate deliver the same antioxidant punch.
A fitness basket. Sure a treadmill’s great. But that’s not the only way to exercise. Throw together some fun products that will get Mom moving more. How about a yoga DVD, a funky yoga top, a pedometer, and some small dumbbells. If you live local, include coupons for a walk around the block with her favorite daughter. (That would be you!)
A healthy cookbook. Everyone likes to experiment with new recipes. Get her a cookbook so those new recipes will be healthy ones. Here at Endurance, we’re partial to Good Food, Great Medicine. This completely revised third edition includes 185 mouthwatering recipes, menu planning ideas, restaurant tips, pantry basics, and more. As an added bonus, it also contains compelling research confirming the health benefits of a Mediterranean-style diet and lifestyle.
An iPod. Load it up with her favorite music and podcasts that she can enjoy on walks around the block or on the treadmill. The right tunes can help anyone get moving.
A charitable gift in her name. Helping those in need can help Mom feel good. Even better, make it personal. Is she an animal lover? Donate to her local animal shelter. Does she volunteer at a homeless shelter? Donate there. Or set aside a Sunday yourself and go with her to serve a meal. Make sure to let the charity know you’re donating in your mom’s name so they can send her a note of thanks. If you’re not sure where to donate, sites like www.charitynavigator.org or www.guidestar.org provide information on hundreds of nonprofit groups.
One final gift? Make sure your mom is eating a healthy diet. To fill any nutrient gaps, wrap up a high-quality multivitamin like ENDUR-VM® Multi-Vitamin & Mineral.
ENDUR-VM® is ideal for moms of all ages. Choose a formula with iron for moms of childbearing age or without iron for older moms.
