PEPZIN-GI® is a complex of the mineral zinc and L-carnosine. When Zinc and L-carnosine are chemically joined, a unique nutrient is formed. This pH stable, insoluble molecule demonstrates a powerful range of bioactivity important to the gastrointestinal mucosa that is not seen with the individual components.
Extensive clinical study documents that this supplement supports healthy gastrointestinal function in multiple ways, including protection of epithelial membranes,
support for a healthy mucosal barrier, and a healthy balance of gastrointestinal bacteria.*
Zinc-Carnosine, the unique combination of an essential mineral and two essential amino acids, is the clinically proven formulation of PepZin GI®. Zinc is a component of numerous enzyme systems and necessary for DNA synthesis. Zinc plays an important role in wound healing, assisting the production of T-lymphocytes, and people with zinc deficiencies have poor healing rates. L-Carnosine is composed of two amino acids; L-histidine and beta-alanine. These protein building blocks are naturally occurring and are obtained by including meat and beans in your diet.
When Zinc and L-carnosine are chemically joined, a unique nutrient is formed. This pH stable, insoluble molecule demonstrates a powerful range of bioactivity important to the gastrointestinal mucosa not seen with the individual components.
A recent study published in the journal GUT, demonstrated zinc-carnosine’s stimulation of cell migration and proliferation (healing), and improved intestinal permeability following indomethacin induced injury*. This is significant due to the amount of NSAID use in the population and the resulting effects on the mucosal barrier.
This natural, orthomolecular approach does not interfere with normal gastrointestinal function as does raising the pH of the stomach or blocking the production of hydrochloric acid, both of which play an important role in normal digestion and mechanical function of the lower esophageal sphincter. In fact, prolonged acid suppression has been shown to negatively affect the gastrointestinal microflora and absorption of nutrients.
Suggested use: As a dietary supplement take or chew 1 tablet twice daily, with or without meals.
